Ancient Art Of War (1984)

This was one of the earliest PC games I got hooked on. It’s a real time strategy of sorts, years before the likes of C&C was released. You can’t manufacture units but instead have to order existing battalions around a map to achieve a predetermined objective such as capturing a flag, or destroying all the enemy. When enemy units encountered each other you can zoom in to a side on view and order them around in various formations and see them fighting each other. It was a really detailed game for the era with loads of depth but not to the extent that it wasn’t approachable. This was an influential title that seems to be unjustly forgotten now. It also got a bunch of sequels which I’d love to take a look at if this got picked for the month.
I’m pushing my luck with 5 game suggestions back to back so I’ll stop here…
