Brutal Wolf3D is an entertaining interpretation of the original game. Unlike “Blade of Agony,” BW’s levels and plot are much closer to Wolf3D, yet its mechanics have been significantly upgraded: armor, no hitscans, reloading, dual wielding, grenades, axes, iron sights, lighting effects, floor and ceiling textures and embellishments. The difficulty also seems higher, with ammo more scarce and not always shared among weapons. At the same time the blue guards seem weaker, perhaps for realism?
I may dial back some of the changes — where possible in settings — to replay just for the graphical improvements. It feels easier to navigate as they’ve made different map areas more distinct.
Has anyone else tried it?
