This game was originally developed by Walter Bright for the PDP-10 mainframe system that was available at Caltech, where Walter was a student.
It was later ported and released for many systems. In 1997 Walter put up a website documenting some of the things he had lying around regarding his game, including source code and publisher rejection letters.
The website is still online and it’s an amazing little piece of videogame history: https://www.classicempire.com/
Oooh, I love Web 1.0 sites like this! Great find Tijn!
I especially like the system requirements section. The challenge would be to make a system that DOESN’T meet them!
Oh wow, the rejection letters as well, what a find!
