Hey all,
This year I have been participating in Doomworld’s monthly Ironman competitions. There are actually two:
https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/151600-the-dwironman-league-dies-to-midnight/ – the DW Ironman League
https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/151728-ironeagle-competition-76-irkalla/ – the IronEagle challenge.
As the name suggests, these are monthly competitions hosted on the thriving Doomworld forums, in which participants aim to survive for as many levels as possible in the given map set. Each month they choose a new WAD to play through, some harder than others.
Despite my many years of playing Doom I am pretty poor at these (they tend to be a lot harder than the standard Doom and Doom 2 maps) but the competitions are open to players of all skill and experience levels and quite a blast!
You can play in any compatible source port. My source port of choice for these is DSDA Doom (https://doomwiki.org/wiki/DSDA-Doom) because of the ease of recording demos (which you can submit to the forum as your “proof”) and changing the compatibility levels on the fly (you don’t really need to understand anything about compat levels to take part – but if you are interested, here is an 18 minute explainer!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFZFNE0a82w).
