I’ve finally had a chance to give this game more than about 5 minutes, and all I can say is… it’s very bullfrog. By that I mean way more intricate than it really needs to be. I’m not saying that as a bad thing.
If you were to take ONLY the mission part of the game and then strip it of half of the mechanics and complexities, you would still have a whole proper game in and of itself. In fact, I think you could call it Cannon Fodder 😉
But bullfrog can’t stop there. They had to add in drug mechanics, persuasion, drivable vehicles and who knows what else. And that’s just inside the missions. Next there’s a whole set of 4x-ish wargame mechanics, management sim mechanics, tech trees, I could go on. Oh and did I mention the management screens are actually real time? You can watch your money go down when you’re not even doing anything.
Don’t get me wrong, this level of depth is great, but I can see why Peter Molyneux has the reputation he does…
