Submarine space sims?
-
“submarine shooter sim” is a fascinating genre; it’s almost like “what else we can do besides space sims” in the vein of 3D movement vehicular combat games that doesn’t have the complications of a flight sim.
I have a bunch of these from GOG.com and was always curious to read about these in the 90s, but I’ve never played one! I have this one from GOG too, but I’m not sure I realized it’s from 1993, and I definitely didn’t realize it’s the same developer as the I-War games! (which are also really fascinating games I’ve still not played)
1993 sounds like something that might work on my 486sx.. maybe I’ll try to get my GOG.com copy installed on it. (So I can kinda spend time on it but avoid playing it I guess!)
A 486SX should run this game… ok. It’s just about playable on a 386DX 33mhz, and fairly tolerable on a 486DX 25mhz. I feel like it’s really intended for a 486DX 66mhz and up though.
It’s a ridiculous memory hog though. Expect to trawl through some vogons pages and twiddle with your config.sys and autoexec.bat a lot to get it running!
