    wow.

Just listening to the Bill Gates episode, wow nothing has changed! Bill and Michael talk MS-DOS, but then briefly speak about #AI !

Then later in the show Paul and Sarah talk about Work From Home potential issues with Computers entering the home and how the Gov doesn’t want people to be driven to slave labour due to no limits around working hours!

Wow, so I guess they licenced the engine a few years later?

I can find so little information about that game, not helped by the very generic title!

    haha that is incredible.

Amateur and Pro are quite ok, Championship level is ridiculous. Each time I get to the finish line 3 cars rapidly accelerate in front of me.

Basically have to rapid fire hedgehogs at the finish line in the hope you hit the two to three karts which fly in front of you to win.

    And its out!

By all reviews the remaster is fantastically done, just that a few note it’s a little overpriced, however I think the amount of work that has gone into this by Nightdive warrants the price if you are a true fan of the original game (or of the excellent work Nightdive are continuing to do).

    Love the original NFS games.

    Also started with NFS:SE.

The newer NFS lose the ‘exotic supercar’ core that I loved.

It was put on the recent ‘racing game’ poll and just missed out vs Wacky Wheels. ( https://dosgame.club/@dosgameclub/111834218718725266 )

So I’m sure we’ll hit it up soon!

I’ve used the ‘computer control’ option a few times, just to learn what it recommends, and I had noticed a few odd path choices (the search the perimiter one was one of those).

I have been pushing to level up the monsters, but hadn’t always pushed the wizards to train.

I have also read that I should put the Imps into the training room to get them up to level 3 as this improves their digging/mining speed.

I do use the selection from the Monsters tab, as it’s near impossible to select an individual monster when they are all training!

I’ll just have to keep path finding and trying to stumble upon lesser rooms I think so I don’t end up finding their main monster room and ending up with a huge 20 on 20 battle.

With the Call to Arms, does this have an area of effect? as I could not find anything in the manuals, and when I’ve used it no monsters seem to take any notice of it.

I’ve been struggling with this game, enjoying it still, but after reading the manual and trying to get faster at deploying monsters I still fall to the enemy in each battle.

Is there a better tactic to advancing? I haven’t found a way to get monsters to go ‘find’ a battle, I drop them near and they simply walk back to the training room.

I’ve got it all running nicely.

Like many other re-code-releases this still requirs the original files to work.

The GOG Gold files work perfectly, and were on sale when I bought them.

You can also get the OGG music working with it too.

Finally had a chance to get into the new patch.

It really has filled out the lore and added new secret areas which are all equally amazingly done.

It is interesting that none of it is ‘required’ to complete the game, but it fills in many of the missing pieces from the earlier game.

For those who may have played 1.05 or earlier I highly recommend going back and trying to find the new areas.

    Ah awesome!

    Some spoilers possibly.

    – What was the significance of the graveyard? A lot of info went into the headstones for instance?
    – The multiple endings, what was the reason for the Cafe/Dream ending and medacine? Also the easter egg cheating ending!
    – Did you originally plan for a much larger game, given the Teleport Stone in the Laboratory, the city over the horizon and the locket?
    – Other easter eggs, the Red ‘Fern’ Herring, The Golden Box?

and it has a neat feature

“One of the unusual features is that it can read wolfenstein 3d data, so if you have that installed via steam or gog, you can play through that whole game but overhead instead of first person”

    oh and.. haha.

I was chatting with Lobdegg on itch.io about the 130 points..

    https://itch.io/t/2956378/stuck-in-an-examinetalk-loop

DJ: Another bug I found is the ability to get infinite points, by asking the scholar about Karkarath, you can continue to ask the same question for infinite points

    L: lol Yeah, we were made aware of that bug recently. The patch already has the fix for that in place. To be fair, it’s the only way you can get the 130th point! The actual max points is supposed to be 129. That one was a basic math error on my part. ^.^;

So playing the game right you cannot even get to 130 points!! haha.

    DJ_HiP
    Participant
in reply to: Endings, Surprises, Game chat [Spoilers] #7642

I messaged Lobdegg on mastodon and got some answers 🙂

    – Scholars Chest with Magic Lock
    – Scholars.. Portal? The Grey circle next to the chest
“The chest and the stone platform in the lab are currently just decorations. At this rate we’ll need another content patch! XD”

    – Graveyard.. the centre Gravestone has the circular hole at the top?
“The hole in the gravestone was @ClarusPlusPlus being very artistic and so many folx get focused on it! XD I may have to add something just to satisfy player curiosity. ^.^”

    – The Red Wall, in the books in the Study it references soaking a surface in red fluid, which we’ve then done but no portal, or I’ve not found a away to activate a portal
“The Red Wall has a bug and it requires a very specific command. The patch has fixed the bug giving it a lot more flexibility.”

    – Hermit’s Golden Box in the shop?
“The Hermit’s Golden Box is a reference joke.” No interaction beyond what the hermit says.

    – Red Blood Reeds
“The Blood Reeds are a red herring”

    – Flesh Wall, any further interaction?
    None

    – The Locket
“the Locket has sadly very little in the current build. There’s a lot around it coming in the patch currently in development.”

So it sounds like the next patch/expansion will add a few more features but it also seems like at this stage this is the complete game, while some additional middle-section things will get updates it’s not getting any new ‘chapters’ as such.

Still is a great game for its limitations 🙂

Oh I haven’t found the 666 ending yet, ok!

    Things I think should be able to be explore but I haven’t found a way to yet;

    – Scholars Chest with Magic Lock
    – Scholars.. Portal? The Grey circle next to the chest
    – Graveyard.. the centre Gravestone has the circular hole at the top?
    – The Red Wall, in the books in the Study it references soaking a surface in red fluid, which we’ve then done but no portal, or I’ve not found a away to activate a portal
    – Hermit’s Golden Box in the shop?
    – Red Blood Reeds
    – Flesh Wall, any further interaction?

Oh and the Locket? Did I miss something, its in the synopsis for the game yet I’ve found no way to use it aside from talking with the scholar about it.

Maybe I’ve just missed a step with any of those above, but I feel like most of those should be actionable.

Nice, I haven’t been able to use the reeds either.

I also found an ending… do we say, cafe/diner? if we’ve found the same one 🙂

I’ve also found the geode can be in three places at least, but I haven’t found a way to trigger each place.

I’ve only managed around 106 points now.

in reply to: Endings, Surprises, Game chat [Spoilers] #7618

I have now finished the game, at least one way, but I ended with 90 something points out of 130, so there is obviously more to explore.

I now intend to go back to ask the scholar more questions about any item, room or space I’ve found.

I already went through every name in the cemetary and he knew nothing! Not a very knowledgeable scholar! 😀

Really enjoying the insane challenge of really nailing the technical components and it flows really well as well which is amazing given how many ‘stunt’ pieces you put in a row.

Fantastic to see how many competitions it’s been featured in, but that this is the first NoRH it’s going to be listed in, wow!

That was incredible, beautifully restored and configured.

Really brought back far too many memories of just how many hours we spent getting so many cards to play nice with each other. “Kids these days don’t know how good they’ve got it!!” 😛

Also brought back the nightmares of trying to squeeze adult hands into tiny spaces to plug floppy and molex connectors into drives! Many cuts and grazes on my hands from pushing them into spaces they should not go 🙂

    Nice collection everyone!

I’ve been into collecting laptops (mainly due to space!)

I have 5 or so identical laptops from 2006 which I’ve setup as dosbox gaming machines so several people can play games at once, so they are portable, feel semi time appropriate and have a 4:3 screen so the games look right. I’ve been showing my kids many old dos games with them every school holidays and they love it!

I’ll have to get the older laptops out of the shed and fire them up 😀

I also enjoyed Acient Empires on a 286 back in the day and Treasure Mountain.

It depends how simple, like ‘The Playroom’ from 1989 which was more a mouse training game.

Otherwise ‘Think Quick’ was another puzzle solving fame from 1987 (CGA 4 Colours too!).

Would ‘Virtual Pool’ be considered a Kids Game? Played lots of that too, pity none of it translated into real life billiard skills however 😛
