Not too bad this. Had a bit of a play on it. Managed to do okay on the easiest difficulty.

The forward defensive shot (down on the joystick) is incredibly useful. Anything towards the stumps is forward defensive and batting seems intuitive – anything offstump (the stump furthest away from the batters leg) is played easily enough, as are sweep shots. Issues I have are the bowling – having no balls is quite a thing to be aware of in a game like this, and running is not intuitive. Also I struggle with the graphics of the ball – having finger position rather than say “off spin/leg spin” is confusing (I’m a seam bowler IRL so I don’t know which is which!), but I’m scoring runs regularly.

Better than I thought it would be.

I’m promising nothing 😝. I’m not sure of the rules myself, and in the past 3 years I’ve had at least one occasion where we’ve had to pull the rule book out to interpret something that’s happened!

Dutch are pretty good to be fair! They beat South Africa in the last 50 Over World Cup (I went to see them lose to South Africa in the 20 Over World Cup earlier this year).

If I remember the games from the past, I feel it doesn’t hold up purely because of the pace of the game, and the ones that tend to do better are the management and strategy ones, though you need a Wisden Cricket Alamac level of understanding the games to enjoy them.

Although not DOS, the later Cricket games by Big Ant hold up pretty well, purely because you’re not doing some waggling of the joystick to get spin or fast bowling, and hold your hand when it comes to shots and bowling, so it’s more accessible.

    * Cricket have 3 World Cups. Best not to ask.
