NinetonguesParticipantSure, if you have the gun on you the FIRST TIME you’re leaving the COMMs room, they search you and confiscate it.
All the other times they are just dismissive.
NinetonguesParticipantI confirm – this works like a charm now. I’ve never played Albion in such comfort before. I can only strongly suggest using this.
NinetonguesParticipantSorry to keep bugging you, but I’d really like to try that, and I can’t seem to work it all out.
So, I understand that you can’t use GOG version to do that, okay. I used “clean” original version.
Tried both versions:
• Albion-Windows-x86-v1.7.2-sdl1.zip
• Albion-Windows-x86-v1.7.2-sdl2.zipAnd I’m getting an error saying I can’t run this program in Widows 64-bit version.
Is the 64-bit version of the port somewhere? Am I missing something?
NinetonguesParticipantHello! This “port” thing sounds interesting. How do you make it work? You linked to a page with a bunch of downloads of tiny files… What’s next? How do you install and play?
NinetonguesParticipant– Cut content! Albion fans have found info in the code about a “cut” nation described only as “hedonists”. They were supposed to live in the place where the Dji Cantos are and use the same beautiful tile set. Is there any truth in all that?
– The Prison Quest! In the desert part of the game you can find a prison with a female prisoner you can free. The whole thing feels very random, but also like a part of a much bigger quest line that was cut for some reason. Could you tell us more about that?
NinetonguesParticipant32 hours sounds quite legit for a first play through. Could be longer if the player wants to use all the exploits and take time with leveling.
NinetonguesParticipantI simply LOVE MOO2. Instant nostalgia. I always keep this game on my disk, together with Albion by Blue Byte. And this episode is what lured me to DOS Games Club.
I don’t know if there’s anything new I could add… It’s one of those games that bought me instantly with presentation – intuitive (for me at least) interface, colors, cute little animations, character illustrations… And this music! My God. So perfect!
This is one of those games that made me become a professional video game narrative designer.
Maybe one thing I could add would be the soft fantasy aspect of the game. Fighting space dragons and eels guarding “treasures” (good planets), Orion Guardian boss fight, race creation that makes you think of RPG characters… Also some of the races look pretty fantasy-like, especially Elerians, Darloks and the Alkari.
NinetonguesParticipantIt was a first original game I ever bought. It was way back in post-communism Poland, and there was no instance of “shops with video games”. People mostly traded copies of copies. Somehow in one computer shop there was this big, green box, and me and my brother just picked it up not even knowing what gem we’re buying!
I remember installing it nervously from 7 (probably) floppies…
And even despite the fact that for some reason we had no sfx, only music, up to this day it’s my brother favorite game of all time. <3
NinetonguesParticipantYes!
This is my favorite game ever, period. Music, art, story, immersion, mix of sci-fi and fantasy… I come back to this beauty each year.
This is one of those childhood experiences that made me become a professional video game narrative designer. Absolute personal top 3, together with “Master of Orion 2” and “System Shock 2”.
And since it is pretty long, you really don’t have to play the whole thing to see the beauty – 1/3 or 1/4th part would be enough, just the first island. Though I doubt anyone would want to stop playing this gem anyway. 🙂
