M.D.K.

!!!Newsflash!!!

A huge City Minecrawler is
headed straight for
the gaming community of
DOS Game Club, DGC

And you are Kurt Hectic, janitor on board the space station Jim Dandy and Earth's only hope. So get into your "Doctor Hawkins' Amazing Coil Suit" and strap on your "Doctor Hawkins' Incredible Ribbon Chute" and start skydiving down towards the planet, evading incoming missiles and start kicking some alien rear ends, not least thanks to the world's smallest nuclear explosion.

Is Shiny Entertainment's 1997 DOS classic still worth a play today? What does M.D.K. stand for? Who is Max? What is a Streamrider? And what does that all have to do with a handful of tiny villages in England and Scotland? Find out the answers to all of these questions (and more) in this episode.

Joining hosts Martijn ("Tijn") and Florian ("rnlf") are Richard ("Pix"), who's been on the show so often, he actually started helping us out with getting the show produced now (thank you so much!), and Nick ("Martli"), who is entirely new to the show and is joining us all the way from New Zealand.

Once again, no voice message this time. What's wrong with all of you?

Enjoy!

We once again got lots of help from DGC member console with editing this episode. Many thanks to him and all who make this show possible!

Great episode, and thanks for playing the awesome music!

Tommy Tallarico is … quite the character and known to be full of s**t in many regards. Also, he’s not that good of a composer. I mean, he’s not bad but not M.D.K.-level good. So I did a tiny bit of digging and apparently the game’s music was by Todd Dennis (source: https://www.reddit.com/r/hbomberguy/comments/17eg511/does_anyone_know_if_tommy_really_composed_the/)

If you want to jump into the rabbit hole and learn about what kind of person Tommy T. is, I urge you to indulge in this excellent video:

Thank you for this. I wasn’t planning on spending my evening watching a documentary, but there you go. I was aware of the Intellivision debacle, but not the full extent of the issue. I grew up watching Electronic Playground. They even gave me a shout out once on the show for sending in a question. I was 10 or something. It was a big deal for me and I probably still have the VHS tape with the episode. I recently learned Atari bought Intellivision and saw that Victor Lucas was still posting videos under the EP brand on YouTube. It’s awesome to see him still doing what he loves. Thanks again!

Oh no! I actually suggested this game earlier this year, then realised it had already been suggested years ago. I should have checked the forum more regularly because I certainly would have contributed a voice message for MDK 🙁 Anyway, I’ll look forward to hearing what you all thought about it. We all thought it was amazing when it came out, like nothing we’d ever seen or heard before!

Great episode guys! Thank you! I have fond memories of MDK, so this was a treat. After listening to the episode, I was tempted to download and play through the game. I just couldn’t spare the hours in a day, so I opted to skip through a play through on YouTube. That just made me want to play it more! So, I guess I’m going to have to find the time.

Great show and great club!
